Show some love, please?

You know I’ve a penchant for making up silly stories for my amigurumis. There have been occasions when I even subjected you to my goofy comic strips about the mischievous twins and a crime fighting schoolgirl. So when, the treasure-trove of all things amigurumi, announced it was hosting its first “animal at work” themed amigurumi design contest where the contestants had to not only design “the cutest animal and give him or her some nice crocheted workwear or tools” but also create a story for their amigurumis, I jumped right in.

So ladies and gentlemen, allow me to unveil my three entries for this exciting contest. Presenting *drumroll* Foxy O’Neal, Miss Kitty Catty, and Cuddles & Buddy! Foxy O'Neal Foxy O’Neal (a.k.a. Slam Dunk), the 8 inch tall basketball champ, is fully poseable with wired limbs and a movable head. This gives him the flexibility to make high jumps, net the ball, and score for his team. Isn’t he adorable? Now is the chance to show him how much you love him 🙂

Miss Kitty CattyOur 14 inch feline amigurumist, Miss Kitty Catty, also boasts of fully movable limbs, which gives her dexterity to create cute little amigurumi teddy bears. She’s extremely quick with the hook and can whip up a few teddy bears in no time. Okay people, a gorgeous amigurumi-making cat that does not scratch! I know it’s impossible not to want to vote for this cutie-pie. Go ahead, click on that link that says VOTE, don’t be shy 😀

Cuddles & Buddy You already know Cuddles and Buddy. Their free patterns were earlier posted here as the “Holiday Bears”. Though these newly appointed Santa’s assistants are only 5.5 inches and 8 inches tall, they can beat anyone at gobbling up large quantities of chocolate pudding. They can also seriously raise the cuteness bar. You love them, don’t you? So why don’t you go ahead and show them some love 🙂

The voting for this amigurumi design contest is currently underway at where everyone can vote for their five favorite designs till November 30. All you need to do to submit your vote is click on the red heart button on five of your favorite amigurumis, then enter your name and email address in the pop-up screen. I know you have always loved my amigurumis. So will you please show some love and vote for them? 🙂

Thank you so much for your love and support 🙂

Serah, Tales of Twisted Fibers

Naughty or Nice, free patterns for all

Naughty-or-Nice-Holiday-Bears-Free-Amigurumi-Pattern---Tales-of-Twisted-FibersIs it too early for a Holiday themed blog post? I hope not because two very sweet darlings want me to ask you what do you think they should expect to find in their Christmas stockings this year.Naughty-or-Nice-Holiday-Bears-Free-Amigurumi-Pattern---Tales-of-Twisted-FibersThis is the naughty little Holiday bear. See that troubled expression on his face? That’s because he’s been naughty throughout the year, giving his mama a hard time. Now that Christmas is approaching, he’s worried he’s going to end up with a lump of coal in his stocking.Naughty-or-Nice-Holiday-Bears-Free-Amigurumi-Pattern---Tales-of-Twisted-FibersThis cheerful fella, on the other hand, has been really nice this year and he is excited to see what Santa will bring for him. Personally he’d prefer a 3D printer but he knows Santa’s elves don’t do 3D printer because promoting that kind of technology would practically leave them jobless.

While these two Naughty and Nice Holiday Bears chalk up their wish list, I’ll let you into a secret—I cheated while making these amigurumis! Now that I have your undivided attention, let me explain. Both these amigurumi bears have been designed in such a way that they can be out on display throughout the year, and not just on Christmas. Naughty-or-Nice-Holiday-Bears-Free-Amigurumi-Pattern---Tales-of-Twisted-FibersSince they do not come in traditional Christmas colors as you must have noticed, all you need to do is remove their hats and scarves and hide away their stockings and they are good for any season 😀 Naughty-or-Nice-Holiday-Bears-Free-Amigurumi-Pattern---Tales-of-Twisted-FibersAnd now, it’s time for some free goodies! Who wants free patterns for these amigurumi Holiday Bears? Each of these two PDFs contain crochet patterns for the bear, its hat and scarf, and a miniature Christmas stocking.

Honey Boo Teddy Bear

Honey Boo Bear Amigurumi - Tales of Twisted FibersHello! My name is HONEY BOO.Honey Boo Bear Amigurumi - Tales of Twisted FibersThere are two things I love. Tea, which I sip all day…Honey Boo Bear Amigurumi - Tales of Twisted Fibers… And playing Scrabble. Would you like to stick around a bit longer and play a round of Scrabble with me? Please? I’ll pour you a cup of my special tea if you stay.

Isn’t he cute! I know you’d love to hang out with this cutie pie even if you don’t particularly fancy tea or Scrabble 😀 Because he’s THAT kinda guy—cute and squeezable!  I made this adorable little teddy bear amigurumi from a pattern designed by the amazingly talented Vanja of AmigurumiBB—I absolutely admire her work!—who is generously giving away the pattern for free on her blog! The Twins Amigurumi

Before I introduce you to the Twins, I apologize for taking what seems like forever to update. It’s been more than a month since I last posted. Unforgivable, I know, but way too many things were happening (moving house, locating my yarn stash and WIPs buried amidst piles of moving boxes which was no mean feat and certainly involved a lot of drama, falling sick, recovering only to find my net link’s gone for a toss, blah, blah, blah!) that this poor blog had to take a backseat temporarily. But happy days are here again. And on that note, please allow me to present to you the Twins – Cookie and Bikkie! 00_Cookie&Bikkie_Cover_Tales-of-Twisted-FibersCookie sports purple hair and ties her hair in two tiny buns because it allows her to do things without her hair getting in the way. She prefers pink Chuck Taylor sneakers to ‘girly’ shoes because, in her own words, “life is much easier when you don’t have to worry about looking pretty all the time”. Bikkie, on the other hand, is a total girly girl who wouldn’t go anywhere without her Mary Janes. Sweet, don’t you think!

At 8.5 inches,  these amigurumi twins are quite a handful. Leave these two unsupervised for a couple of minutes and they are sure to be up to some mischief.

And now I have some good news for you. The free amigurumi pattern for Cookie is almost ready and will be posted on this blog soon. Very soon. In fact, sooner than you think. So stay tuned for my next update 😀 In the meantime, you are welcome to browse through the image gallery below to see what the girls are up to 😉

I’ve Got Mail!

My Bee Girl amigurumi has got a hairdo makeover, courtesy amigurumibb! And she was kind enough to send me the photographs 🙂

BeeDoll-AmigurumiBB-TalesOfTwistedFibersPatternDoesn’t she look absolutely gorgeous! I’m super thrilled that an amigurumi designer who creates the most adorable amigurumis and whose crocheting skills far exceeds mine, has chosen to make my Bee Girl. *doing a happy dance* 😀

Thanks, amigurumibb, for trying out this pattern and making it your own. I absolutely adore your blue-haired bee girl 🙂

UPDATE (8 June, 2013): The Bee Girl Pattern is now available in Dutch! And this little bee has somehow transformed herself into a ladybug! Thanks for translating the pattern and sharing it with your readers, Ami Fan 🙂

The story of a Naughty Boy

First off, thank you for all your lovely comments, shares, emails and text messages on how much you loved my bee girl amigurumi 😀 When I was creating this little girl, I had no idea she’d be loved so much by you. It was only when orders started pouring in (mostly from friends and family) for this little amigurumi did I realize I was on to something good here (though a text message saying “I want one too” when the doll was still in its drafting stage should have given me some idea :D).

Here’s a photograph to show you how popular she’s become. 2.-Amigurumi-Kids----Tales-of-Twisted-FibersOh yes, she’s become a fashion icon now and little girls everywhere are wearing little bee girl costumes!

1.-Amigurumi-Boy-and-Girl---Tales-of-Twisted-FibersAnd all the little boys are asking out girls who look like our little bee girl 😀

2.-Amigurumi-Boy-and-Girl---Tales-of-Twisted-FibersThis little bee girl and her boyfriend, the Naughty Boy, will be heading to Gangtok soon where their adoptive parents are eagerly waiting for them.

Amigurumi-Boy----Tales-of-Twisted-Fibers-copyThis little Naughty Boy was created two days ago based on a very rough doodle. I originally wanted him to hold a miniature bouquet (or at least a flower for the bee girl) but P put his foot down for reasons still unfathomable to me! But I wanted to give the boy some sort of accessory. That’s when I suggested a catapult peeping out of the boy’s pocket. P not only liked the idea, he volunteered to make it! So that, ladies and gentlemen, is the ‘origin’ story of the little Naughty Boy and his catapult.

The free pattern for the Naughty Boy amigurumi will be posted soon. In the meantime, I hope you’ll visit my previous post and try out my free Bee Girl amigurumi pattern.

Keep calm and crochet on 😉

Free Bee Girl Amigurumi Pattern

I have finally managed to write the pattern for the bee girl and here it is as promised 🙂

UPDATE (4 June, 2013): This pattern is among the “From Dream To Reality #69” Top Ten Fun Features. Yay! Thanks, Christine 😀

The DIY Dreamer

The pattern is only for the doll. Tutorial for glass frames and antennae not included. Sorry, I totally suck at working with wires; you’re on your own there! 😦 But I’m sure many of you crafty readers will be able to figure out how to shape them by looking at the photographs. I used small lengths of copper wire to make these shapes and while the glass frame was left as it is, the wire ‘feelers’ were covered by tightly winding yellow yarn over them.

This pattern has not been tested and may contain errors (I suck at writing patterns too), so my apologies in advance for any inconvenience trying out this pattern might cause you. If you spot any errors, please be kind enough to let me know and I promise I’ll make the corrections 😀
