Thank you all for your love and support, and the faith you’ve shown in me. I cannot thank you enough for your kind words of encouragement, telling me to continue doing what gives me so much joy and not give into negativity. As some of you have already figured out by now, the accusation that I force people to pay for my free patterns was solely based on someone’s lack of understanding of how blogs work; that if they select to receive email notifications of new comments on this blog, they will get an email every time a new comment is added!
My heartfelt gratitude to my dear friend Cynthia Rhodes who not only stood by me but also took the time to kindly explain to this person the basics of blogging and commenting and that she was not being scammed by anyone. Cynthia, you are a wonderful person and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
As most of you know, I include a note in all my free patterns for you to consider making a donation to Animal Nepal. My hasty decision to bring down all my free patterns was a panic reaction to this wild allegation that threatened not only to slander my name but also that of a wonderful organization that has been caring for homeless, injured and abused animals in Nepal. I realize I overreacted and hit the panic button too soon without thinking how you all would feel about this. And I’m truly sorry for having upset you. After all the love you’ve given me, taking down this blog or my patterns would be like taking your love and friendship and throwing it back in your face and I’d never do that.
Thank you for all your comments and emails. Most of you don’t know me personally, yet when I was hurt and angry, you reached out to me and helped me heal. You’ve shown me for one negative person who thinks nothing of tearing down a complete stranger, there will be a hundred who’d be willing to stand by you, pick you up when you’re down, and fight for you. Recently I was asked in an interview if I thought crocheting had a therapeutic effect. And I had said yes, it is a stress buster. Now I realize it’s much more than that. It is a thread that binds so many people who may have nothing in common save a love for this craft; people who have never met in person—and probably never will—but are there to encourage and support each other. And I feel blessed to be among such strong, happy folks.

Your reaction was completely understandable and I still cannot believe that she blamed you for her ignorance of basic internet practices. I hope people will take this as a lesson not to make hasty and baseless accusations that can really hurt people.

This blog is a happy place for many of us and if there’s one thing that I’ve learned from this mess, it is this: don’t quit just because someone tries to bring you down due to their own ignorance and negativity; instead make them leave if they can’t play nice. Yes, I was quite shocked by the accusation. I could not understand why anyone would think I’d chase them for money. If I wanted money, I could have simply sold those patterns. I was also afraid along with my name, the animal welfare organization that I support, its name too would be dragged in the mud. Thankfully, one of our friends here figured out what really was happening before this person could do more damage. Thank you for your kind words. I’ll keep them in mind. 🙂

Oh my! So sorry to hear that you had to go through this. Sometimes there’s no explanation possible for some things that happen to us, but they serve to make us grow and appreciate who we are as people. That poster is lucky; you could have turned around and laid into her and slander her for not understanding basic internet practices. I’m sure she would not have liked that. Oooh Serah, what a relief to have you ”back on the crocheting track ”again..even dutch people like me felt sooo sorry for you and I felt the hurt you had to go through (maybe my grammar isnt perfect but my intention is). . . I fully understand yr panic-button-hit but its good to go on coz so many people all over the worl love you and the patterns you share and the fundraising you do, keep up the good work..I hope you dont mind my non-donation coz I am raising money for the Dutch Childrens Cancer Organisation since abrt 8 years, when I ”got” my first cancerperiod..last one was last year and I hope it will stay away …and yr totally right: crocheting is more then therapeutic…the bond we have, the thread is sooooooooooo important !! Glad you are staying the course, people are ignorant yet think they understand all.
I once was helping the children’s bookstore I was working for put on a bookfair at an elementary school. The principal confronted us with anger at only getting 20% of the profit, leaving us 80%. Really? Who was buying the books, etc???? So, whether in your face or online, they don’t undertand all, which is a good reminder to me to remain silent or at a minimum positive.

Having recently made one of your fantastic patterns.. I must admit that you do have a unique talent. Your tutorials are detailed, precise and fail proof. You’re out there with the best of the other designers of crochet .. so ignore these people. Let them have their twisted moment and leave them to deal with their own issues.. you my darling carry on in which ever direction you please. I for one among many other appreciate your generosity .. and realistically, I have actually paid for pattern far less detailed and badly printed than yours could ever be.. your work is yours hence priceless ..
